How Keep the Score collects, uses and protects information across our website and app.

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Privacy at a glance

We collect only the information needed to provide Keep the Score, run accounts and Pro subscriptions, support customers, keep the service secure and, where applicable, fund the free app with advertising. We do not sell personal information.

1. Who we are

Keep the Score operates the Keep the Score website and app and is the controller of the personal information described in this policy.

For privacy questions or requests, use our contact form or email info@keepthescore.co.uk.

2. Information we collect

Account information

Your name, email address, securely stored password credentials, account preferences and whether you use the Free or Pro plan.

Teams, players and matches

Information you choose to enter, such as team and player names, squad numbers, starting line-ups, substitutes, team sheets, scores, match events, goalscorers and timings. Public sharing features and graphics may display selected information to the people you share them with.

Payments and subscriptions

When you purchase Pro in the iPhone app, Apple processes the payment through your Apple Account. We may receive and retain information needed to verify and provide Pro, such as the product purchased, transaction reference, subscription status, renewal or expiry date and the Keep the Score account linked to the purchase. We do not receive or store your full payment-card number or security code.

Device and usage information

IP address, device and browser type, operating system, app version, timestamps, diagnostic logs, security events and information about how the website or app is used.

Advertising information

Where the Free app displays adverts, advertising providers may receive device or advertising identifiers, IP address, coarse location derived from IP, consent choices and information about advert views or interactions. Device and app privacy controls may limit this processing.

Messages

Your name, email address and the contents of messages sent through our contact form or support channels.

We do not use personal information to make decisions that have legal or similarly significant effects through solely automated processing.

4. Children and player information

Keep the Score accounts are intended for coaches, parents and other responsible adults. The service may contain player information entered by an account holder, including information about children. The account holder must have an appropriate reason and permission to enter and share that information, should use only the minimum detail needed, and should share this policy with affected players or their parent or guardian where appropriate.

We recommend using first names, initials or squad numbers rather than full names for junior players, particularly in publicly shared matches. Please contact us if you believe a child’s information has been entered without proper authority.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only where needed with:

  • Apple, which distributes the iPhone app and processes App Store subscriptions and related billing under its own privacy notice;
  • Google Firebase services used for account authentication, cloud data, file storage and app notifications;
  • Google Mobile Ads and consent services where adverts are displayed in the Free app, subject to applicable consent and device controls;
  • website hosting, database, email, security and other technical service providers that help us operate Keep the Score;
  • professional advisers, regulators, courts, law enforcement or other parties where required by law or necessary to protect rights and safety; and
  • a purchaser or successor if the service or business is reorganised, sold or transferred, subject to appropriate protections.

A match share link is public to anyone who receives it. Account holders control whether to create and distribute these links.

6. International transfers

Some service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom. Where required, we rely on an adequacy decision or appropriate safeguards, such as approved contractual clauses, and assess the protections that apply.

7. How long we keep information

Account, team and match information is generally kept while your account is active so the service can provide saved history. You can delete content in the app where that option is available or ask us to delete your account. We keep payment and transaction records for the period required by tax, accounting and legal rules. Support correspondence and security logs are kept only for as long as reasonably needed to resolve issues, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. Residual copies may remain in protected backups until those backups are routinely overwritten.

8. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information, including access controls, secure connections and restricted handling of payment data. No online service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a unique password and contact us if you suspect unauthorised account access.

9. Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, UK data protection law may give you the right to:

  • ask for a copy of your personal information;
  • correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
  • ask us to delete or restrict the use of information;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing; and
  • withdraw consent at any time where processing relies on consent.

These rights are not absolute and may be limited by law. To make a request, contact us using the details above. We may need to verify your identity before acting on it.

You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

10. Cookies and similar technologies

The website and app may use cookies, local storage, tokens or similar technologies that are necessary for sign-in, security, preferences and core functionality. Non-essential analytics or advertising technologies are used only where permitted and, where required, after a choice has been provided.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the service, our providers or legal requirements change. We will post the revised policy here, update the date above and provide additional notice where a change is significant.
